How to Beat the Hawaii Heat on Your Wedding Day

Getting married on a hot summer day is a lovely thought but you should make sure that you and your guests don’t wilt before the day is out.  Here are some ideas to ensure that everybody looks fresh from morning until night during your fabulous Hawaii wedding day.

 

 

• It might seem obvious but light fabrics are the best way of keeping cool.  That’s easy enough to achieve as far as wedding dresses are concerned but grooms should avoid a heavy wedding suit.
  
• Turn the wedding programs into fans and make sure that there are enough bottles of water and soda to hand.  Don’t offer alcohol early in the day as it will dehydrate your guests.
  
• Organize a canopy when the photographs are being taken so that you all can take a break in the shade.
  
• Think about arranging for your ceremony to be held earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon, when the sun isn’t at its hottest.
  
• Parasols are a great idea for your female guests but you may want to let your poor male guests use sun hats, particularly if they have thinning hair!

How to Share Your Fab Wedding Online

Last week, we wrote about how to share your Hawaii wedding memories with family and friends who couldn’t attend.   

That got us thinking about technology and how to share your fab wedding day with people you know around the world.  Guess what?  You don’t need to be a tech geek to do it!

• Set up a YouTube channel and ask one of your bridal party to film the ceremony.  The footage can be uploaded so quickly that it will almost be live! 

• You can do the same thing with photos on Facebook, all from one smart phone.  Wouldn’t it be lovely to read the comments and best wishes from everyone later in the day? 

• If the thought of posting images of your wedding online makes you nervous, you could always post updates on Twitter throughout the day.  Again, you’ll be able to receive messages from those who couldn’t travel with you to Hawaii. 

• Alternatively, stick to posting up pictures of the beach, the stunning Hawaiian scenery or your reception venue.  That way, you can share part of your day without personally having to feature in what’s posted online.

Creative Ways to Share Your Wedding Photos

• Create a photo book online and order as many hardback versions as you like.  Upload your favorite photographs, choose your layout, backgrounds and text and then decide if you want a glossy ‘coffee table book’ look or something more informal.  These make lovely gifts that the receiver will treasure forever.

• Throw a wedding photo and video viewing party.  Your photographs of Hawaii will look incredible on a slideshow on a large screen television via your laptop or tablet.  Don’t forget the wine and food!

• Organize an event where family and friends who couldn’t attend can have their photos taken with you at an Official Post Wedding Party.  This is a great excuse to wear your wedding gown again.

How to Choose a Beach Friendly Wedding Dress

So you’ve decided to get married in Hawaii?  That’s fantastic!  

One of the main attractions of getting married in Hawaii is the relaxed beach wedding ceremony.  You may be worried, though, about what kind of wedding dress is suitable on the sand.  Here are a few suggestions that will make you look gorgeous on the day:

• Keeping the look simple is best to fit in with the more casual vibe of the day.  Too much heavy embellishment or a full skirt will just leave you hot and bothered.
  
• Strapless gowns or off-the-shoulder designs look great on the beach.
  
• Layered chiffon will give you a bright and breezy ‘at the beach’ style that will look fabulous if the wind catches it.
  
• When it comes to color, white or cream are probably the best shades to opt for.  A full gown in a bright color might attract a lot of attention from other people on vacation!A
  
• Grecian style dress would also look fabulous on the sands and it’s easy to combine some flat sandals with it if you don’t want to go barefoot.
  
• If you don’t like the thought of a long gown trailing on the sand, there’s no reason why you can’t choose a cocktail dress length.  This really suits brides who love a modern style.

How to Choose Who Will Attend Your Hawaii Wedding

We think deciding to hold your wedding in a gorgeous location like Hawaii is a great move.  You get to share a delightful, informal day set against a stunning backdrop with your loved ones.

But there’s one thing that you need to think through carefully...your budget.  With a fixed budget in mind, the number of people that you can invite will be limited.  Do you stick to immediate family only?  Or does the thought of leaving behind your closest friend of twenty years put you into a cold sweat?

You also need to consider if you will have to ask guests to pay all or part of their trips.  It’s understandable if you feel guilty about this.  However, it’s your wedding day and you shouldn’t compromise on your dream location to accommodate the circumstances and preferences of others.

You will have to discuss with your partner what is right for both of you.  It may be that some family members or friends will feel hurt if they are excluded.  Be prepared for this reaction and explain how and why you made the decision.  Reassure them that you still want to share your celebrations with them and arrange a party for those who couldn’t go when you get back.

WOWZA!  Talk about keeping a wedding hush hush.  Did you even know that they were engaged?  After a year of dating, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got hitched in a small ceremony at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., on Sunday night.

How long did it take to plan their nuptials? The pair managed to get their picture-perfect day in order in just one month’s time.  Now that's what I call a quick trip down the aisle.

How to Include Children in a Hawaii Wedding Ceremony

There is no doubt that many weddings now a days are the union between men and women who already have children.  Many of my brides in this situation ask me for advice on how to include their children and soon-to-be step children in the ceremony.

Here are 5 ideas on how to include children in your Hawaii wedding ceremony:

• Reader - Give them a poem or beautiful passage about marriage or love to read during the ceremony.
• Bride Escort - This is the 21st century, and weddings have evolved.  There's no reason why your child can't be the one to walk you down the aisle.
  
• Serving as an Usher - Give them the big responsibility of helping guests to their seat,s or have them pass out programs, etc...

• Flower girl or Ring bearer – This is the best job for younger children, since all they have to do is walk down the aisle and look pretty.
• Bouquet holder – Ask your daughter to be the official bridal bouquet holder during the ceremony.  What an honor!
